Brainstorming and Sketching

Brainstorming was done for the exterior box design as this would ultimately effect ideas on how to restructure the product (due to essential information that needs to be displayed on the exterior).

Because advent calendars are a holiday item, a gift box like exterior made sense - which also influenced the ideas for the way the contents are dispersed. After sketching out a viable redesigns for of the advent calendar a more compact box shaped structure started to form, along with a unique type of spool to hold the chocolate.

The structure was designed purposely to be easier to store and display, as the narrow thickness of traditional advent calendar makes it hard sometimes to place on fireplace mantles, or awkward to display because of their large size.

Dieline Creation

To ensure that this product could be created and work as intended a mockup was made out of paper to scale then refined in Adobe Illustrator with the exact measurements and folding/cutting instructions as a ready to print dyeline.

The interior of the box contained a cardboard spool that Lindt chocolate in connected plastic pouches are wrapped around, creating a pull tab to access candy for each date.

Conclusion

The result was a functioning redesign for the Lindt Advent Calendar that is half the original size and uses much plastic than the original calendar.
It is functional, easy to store/display and retains the traditional calendar aspect by including stickers and a pouch for the calendar that can be placed back within the pouch or on the wall.

To showcase how it works, I created a rotoscoped promotional commercial.
